Earlier this week, M.I.A. released a sneak peek of the track along with the full lyrics, which read: "supa-kali-fascist, racist, espi-ala tazors/ Posters with the cases/ They better not erase us" and the namechecking lines "I'm not Rihanna/ I'm not Madonna/ I'm not Mariah/ or Ariana/ I've been around the world causing drama/ the real spice girl/ hot girl power."

"P.O.W.A." is M.I.A's first release since her album AIM came out in September. Prior to the release, the artist announced that she was contemplating retirement.

The accompanying video was self-directed and sees a crew of dancers create a human wave, M.I.A. laying on a bed of flowers in the back of a truck, and standing on a rocky precipice with glittering fabric billowing behind her. The visuals are stunning and succeed at showcasing the natural landscape, but that should be expected; "Go Off," "Borders," and "Bad Girls" all did the same.
