VMAN has just revealed its September cover star: Abel Tesfaye of The Weeknd.

While the singer isn't much for publicity, opting instead to let his music do the talking, Tesfaye opens up about the inspirations behind his next album, as well as his political views, in the rarely candid cover story written by Alex Frank: “There are new inspirations on this album. The production feels aggressive but still sexy. The Smiths, Bad Brains, Talking Heads, Prince, and DeBarge play roles. We wrote it all in Los Angeles. I think it’ll be the best-sounding album I’ve ever done."

The two covers and accompanying images taken by Inez and Vinoodh do well to capture Tesfaye's shroud of mystery, too,  obscuring the singer in a cloud of smoke. Check out the covers below, and be sure to read the full story over on VMAN.com.
