Willow Smith has never been the typical born-and-raised Hollywood youth—she started her music career at 10-years-old with the infectious single "Whip My Hair," signed with New York modeling agency The Society Management at 14, and has been a huge force in bringing feminist and black issues to the mainstream for the last few years, as well.

It is no surprise that now, at 16, Smith and her own production company, MSFTS Production, has teamed up with Cartel Entertainment for two different female-led projects. The companies have acquired the film rights for Alywn Hamilton's popular YA book trilogy Rebel of the Sands, as well as plan to create an animated series titled Menencholy based on Smith's own book proposal.

Both projects delve into the magical fantasy realm, Rebel of the Sands telling the story of a 17-year-old girl named Amani Al'Hiza who leaves her hometown and the expectation that she'll marry a man who could beat some sense into her. Amani ends up traveling in the desert where nothing is like our own reality, and where her adventures begin. Menencholy is about Menen-Nin Khali, a young girl with the ability to see into her past lives. Menen-Nin apparently learns to hone her powers while attending The Mystery School, and ultimately uses them to save her town.

Without any indication of when we can expect to any of these projects to come to fruition, all we can do is hope that maybe we'll get an announcement of the mega talented Smith to star or lend her voice to one or both of these projects.
