The xx have always delivered on the emotional front, giving the world sultry, romantic music even when they were still playing with the minimalistic sound that put them on the map. Their new record I See You is the most colorful and emotive we've seen them, finally stepping away from their all-black facade to reveal a palpable warmth. It's appropriate, then, that the music video for "I Dare You", one of the more colorful tracks from new record, was shot entirely in Los Angeles.

Directed by long-time collaborator Alasdair McLellan, who shot their videos for "Say Something Loving" and "On Hold" as well as their photo book zine It Could Be Love, the video exudes lushness, taking viewers through Glendale and Hollywood Boulevard. The plot follows young couples (a varied cast that includes Moonlight actor Ashton Sanders, Paris Jackson, Lulu, Ernesto Cervantes, and Millie Bobby Brown of Stranger Things) as they dare each other into various scenarios and traverse the city, eventually ending in a "haunted" building where The xx are waiting to serenade them. The eclectic cast and colorful locales can be attributed to the keen eye of Calvin Klein's Cheif Creative Officer Raf Simmons, a long-time admirer of the trio who gladly lent himself to aestheticizing "I Dare You." We wouldn't be surprised if he's also responsible for Romy Madley-Croft's chic "Romantic" jacket.

The band released a statement about the video that further highlights it as a labor of love, and a fitting tribute to the City of Angels:

We are so happy to share our new video for 'I Dare You’. Our love letter to Los Angeles, a city close to our hearts, where we wrote and recorded parts of our album I See You. This is the third video our friend, the wonderful Alasdair McLellan, has directed for us. He collaborated with a hero of ours, Raf Simons, on the creative concept and direction. It was amazing to work with both of them and such a pleasure to meet and work with Millie, Paris, Ashton, Lulu and Ernesto! Thank you to Calvin Klein and everyone involved. We hope you enjoy watching!
