After a breakthrough year spent bursting onto the UK music scene and promoting their debut album Communion, British trio Years & Years are not planning to slow down anytime soon. Today, they unveiled a new track, “Meteorite,” their first new offering in over a year. The song was written specifically for the highly anticipated new movie Bridget Jones’ Baby and serves as the lead for its forthcoming soundtrack.
The disco-tinged electronic number starts as a thumping slow-burner before bursting into subtle euphoria during the chorus. In typical Years & Years fashion, lead singer Olly Alexander croons perfectly throughout, giving nice vocal belts without going too bombastic. “We wanted to make something unashamedly disco and upbeat,” Alexander said of the track, and it holds up on his promise. The track serves perfectly as a celebratory victory lap for their landmark Communion era.
Also in typical Olly fashion, Alexander says in a statement, “If there’s anyone I’d like to be it’s Bridget - a wanton sex goddess with a very bad man between her thighs.” A genuinely fantastic use of press releases.
