Donatella Versace has found a new collaborator for Versus Versace, the younger, edgier sibling brand of Versace: singer and former One Direction member Zayn Malik will be designing a ZAYN X VERSUS capsule collection for the brand.

The artist, and boyfriend of Donatella favorite Gigi Hadid, recently sat front row at the Versace show and donned a bionic-looking suit from the brand for the 2016 Met Gala. Given his relationship with the designer, and fashion’s continuing merger with music, Malik’s appointment should be entirely expected.

On the joint venture, Versace readily admits to the New York Times that it is all about accessibility to a new demographic: “I wanted Zayn because he can help me talk to his followers. I want to listen to their language. I want to learn more about them, what they think and what they like. They are a new generation that without working with someone like Zayn, I will never reach.”

Malik’s sentiments echo Versace’s on wanting to learn more about a new sphere: “I’ve always wanted to design clothes and there’s no brand I’d rather design for than Versus. I like to learn about things I’m interested in and I enjoy being around creative people so I think it will be cool. The bonus is that I get to collaborate with Donatella, whom I love and admire. I know we’ll create something amazing.”

Naturally, Malik will be the face of his own designs for the brand's advertising campaigns. The line will debut in the spring and will include both men's and women's clothing.
