With a new book out this fall and a second one due soon, the provocative artist-writer-photographer reveals his predilection for early Herzog, vintage porn, and aesthetic rawness

1. What are you working on right now?
My second book of photography, Panoramic View, based on my panoramic pictures from beautiful remote locations like Guatemala, Costa Rica, Argentina, Morocco, etc.

2. What has been inspiring you lately?
Werner Herzog's early movies; Fassbinder; old porn; my boyfriend and collaborator Brian Kenny

3. Who are your heroes?
Yuri Gagarin, Arthur Rimbaud, Vladimir Mayakovsky, Alexander Rodchenko, Leni Riefenstahl, Jean Genet, the Viennese Actionists, Joseph Beuys, Diane Arbus, David Wojnarowicz, Larry Clark, General Idea

4. Describe your aesthetic.
I like it raw. Professionalism is the death of creativity.

5. What's your favorite way to keep warm this winter?
My boyfriend's ass.
