Not to get all fangirl, but nothing gets us more excited than watching pop transformations, especially when they look so smart. Selena Gomez is 21 today, and her transition from a wizard on Waverly Place to pretty much just Justin's gf to the singer in one of the best videos on MTV (with the perfectly meta refrain "love you like a love song"—eerily describing a child-star's incredibly public need to make private a teenage romance), to the breakout dramatic actor in this summer's hottest film (another aptly placed line repeated throughout, ironically voiced over the way-dangerous escapades of college Spring Breakers: "this is the most spiritual place I have ever been") has led to this moment, this sexy new music video, this question of whether or not she'll take him back (who would have thought it wouldn't be the other way around?), and this original-Selena level of success. Ms. Gomez is of legal drinking age today, and by the looks of "Slow Down," she's ready to go out. Someone better buy this girl a classy cocktail, because after all the work of tailoring an image this well, she deserves it.
