Chloë Sevigny’s big break was in Larry Clark’s 1995 film Kids, filmed in New York City, where she still lives. The Oscar-nominated and Golden Globe–winning actress has appeared in numerous films and TV shows, including Gummo, American Psycho, Boys Don’t Cry, Party Monster, Zodiac, and HBO’s Big Love. She will next appear in the A&E drama series Those Who Kill, debuting in January

My first big break was: Kids

And since then I've: Tried to maintain a career in this biz which may have been a dumb idea.

My favorite character that I've played to date is: Nicki on Big Love

My next project is: Those Who Kill, a new one-hour drama for A&E

Big budget films tend to be: Elusive to me

If I wasn't acting, I'd be: Working in fashion in some capacity, living from check to check, or working for my brother.

Have you ever worked in an office? No.

What is the most surreal thing that has happened to you since you began working in Hollywood? I hate to say it but the moment I won the Golden Globe for Big Love and had to travel from my chair to the stage was pretty surreal. Time shifted. I think it was adrenaline.

Do you have any unusual habits? Always arriving early, obsessing over waste, wanting to set my own props.

What is your work philosophy? Don't act react, always know your lines, try not to direct your costars.

What is your philosophy on getting into character? It depends on the character, mostly reading materials that pertain to the character or her situation.

Give some advice to today's working woman: Pursue the position of power and run your own race.
