KENZO KALIFORNIA BAG LINE RELEASE PARTY, THE BARRICKS, LA. On Wednesday, October 30th LA's fashion-centric happily came together to celebrate a new line of West Coast inspired bags by Kenzo, aptly titled, Kalifornia. As Opening Ceremony founders and Kenzo's resident designers, Umberto Leon and Carol Lim have always been inspired by their formative teenage years spent in Southern California where tanning, skateboarding and and a generally laid back mentality still prevail.
Familiar LA faces such as Fergie, Rose McGowan, Jessica Alba and Liberty Ross, to name just a few, were in attendance at the Barricks indoor skate park turned venue for a VIP dinner and a dance party featuring DJs Total Freedom and Brenmar to follow. Partygoers enjoyed the high energy music while sipping on Chandon and Belvedere throughout the night until special guest, Kelela, rather suddenly appeared on stage and switched the tone of the party with her sultry and heartfelt R&B jams.
Kalifornia bags themselves made only a brief appearance during the party, but it was clear to all that the message Kenzo was sending was less about the actual bag and more about the vibe and lifestyle that it represents. It is effortlessly cool, not necessarily inexpensive, but completely relaxed. This attitude permeated throughout the crowed who mimicked Kenzo's signature style by donning bright colors, oversized tops and taking casual wear into the wee hours of the night.
