THE DIESEL TRIBUTE PARTY GETS WILD, AND THE CALM AT THE CENTER IS AN EVER-READY FORMICHETTI
Before debuting his first official collection as the appointed creative director of Diesel, Nicola Formichetti wanted to show some respect for the brand's 35-year history. Last night (November 5th), a party at Diesel's SoHo store presented some of the most wearable work we've seen from the designer/stylist, worn on some outrageous kids, ofcourse. Since leaving Mugler, Formichetti has been working on his brand, and on his branding: His social network—from a Diesel Tumblr "Reboot" to an internet-famous cast of Reboot and Tribute models—is exponentially growing, and his name is no longer attached to that of any other pop star or designer. It's just Nicola these days, even months before his first show with the booming brand in March, but the fashion star couldn't be humbler about his career's latest turn. This party, for example, is an homage to the past he wasn't a part of. For it, he has created new pieces from classic archived Diesel denim and put them on sale at select stores. If the well-attended party was any indicator of the brand's future, we'd say Formichetti has his work cut out and patched back together for him.
