EAT. SLEEP. RAVE. REPEAT.
Out-there EDM fests are everywhere, even in our fair city this season (well, right outside of it). Mysteryland (Bethel Woods, New York) and Electric Daisy Carnival (Rutherford, NJ—one stop before the finale in Vegas) might house the most house DJs in one place near NYC this summer, and you want to be ready to party from sun up to sun up with them. Drink plenty of water, apply sunscreen, and wear something cute. Just because your mind is lost in the music doesn't mean people aren't taking tons of pictures, and you might be in them, fists in the air. Might we recommend you nix the furry shin-covers for some Margiela thigh-high boots, or Stella McCartney pleather pants?

ALTERNA-MEGA
If you're planning on attending Coachella (California), Lolapalooza (Chicago), or any of the larger festivals full of everything from up-and-coming synth-pop to classic crowd-pleasers, you don't want to worry about sticking out like a die-hard anything fan, trust. How are you going to get into Eminem's pool party dressed like Skrillex? For these, think sexy, but think smart: no heels, and nothing that's going to start out cinching you in and end up tying you down (besides, strappy and stretch when they're not bikinis don't make for good tan lines). Try one of this season's shift dresses, or a tank and distressed denim skirt, plus a belt bag like this 3.1 Philip Lim in floral.

OUTSIDER ART
For indie fests featuring the painfully hip and the blissfully young like Melt! (Germany), OFF Fest (Poland) and ATP's Jabberwocky (England), you might want to appear an avid fan, but the danger there is ending up looking boxed-in. Which are you: too young to know the music, or too old to get it? Aging record-buyers and nervous tumblr-researchers alike can appear in step with the times wearing all-black (and it's slimming). The benefit of fringe—whether it be by Junya Watanabe, Rag & Bone or The Row—is ventilation. Don't forget your hardcore ankle boots for stomp-protection.

Remember, festivals are like exams, so study up:

1. Prepare. Plan your outifts/rides/meet-up spots/evacuation plans in advance.
2. Rest and hydrate. That means get some sleep, drink lots of water, and don't spike it with anything other than Emergen-C. Don't die, okay?
3. Take a #selfie before, during and after. Instead of an #examselfie, this is a #festivalselfie, obvs. Why else did you go?
