THE STYLISH EMCEE ANNOUNCES ALBUM RELEASE, DEBUTS VIDEO FOR "FUCKIN' PROBLEMS"
Following heavy anticipation following two album delays, A$AP Rocky has announced via his Facebook page that his debut major label LP LONGLIVEA$AP will be released January 15, 2013, establishing it as perhaps the first record of next year to truly be excited about.
Despite his prodigious talent, influential personal style, and the bombastic energy of this breakout album track "Fuckin Problems," it stands to reason that A$AP hasn't really made a decent music video yet. The video below, which debuted last night on 106 & Park showcases a traditional hip-hop minimalism that includes black and white seamless studio space, blue lighting, jerky handheld camera shots and, of course, gyrating women in stripper heels, shaking their asses in silhouette. It's likely that Rocky's label is putting him through the A&R motions of introducing him to a wider public who might not yet be familiar with his specific brand of swagger. Though they may not be ready to take any risks with their big new investment—one of the reasons why major labels suck—we'll take what we can get from one of our favorite artists. It's still one of the year's best songs, even if the video is kind of generic.
