V'S SENIOR EDITOR PATRIK SANDBERG TRAVELED TO COPENHAGEN TO EXPERIENCE THE BEST THAT EMERGING SCANDINAVIAN DESIGNERS HAD TO OFFER. HERE ARE HIS FAVORITE COLLECTIONS
DESIGNERS REMIX FALL/WINTER 2013
One thing about Copenhagen Fashion Week worth highlighting is the trend of exquisite venues that play host to the collections. For Charlotte Eskildsen's Fall/Winter Designers Remix show, editors found themselves in an enormous old bank, complete with an open vault, marble fixtures, and metallic gold columns.
However, Eskildsen reimagined the space as a utopian hospital—clinical yet extravagant, with the crisp minimalism that makes medical garments oddly chic. When girls dressed as RNs handed out glasses of champagne on medical trays upon entrance, it was an indication of what was to come.
The nurses that paraded down the runway gave off an aryan Richard Prince vibe, their albino wigs adding to the starkness of Eskildsen's message this season. Complex knits, wrists bound by a horizontal strap (straight jacket, anyone?) and stiff, structural felt pieces—including sweaters, baseball caps, and even pumps—felt like a breath of fresh air. The following morning when the Designers Remix pieces hit the rack at Dansk Magazine's re-see brunch event, they took on a whole new appeal. Retailers should have the call button to the nurses' station ringing off the hook.
