PATRIK SANDBERG TRAVELED TO PERU FOR LIMA'S FALL FASHION FESTIVAL, PERUMODA. THE LIFE OF THE PARTY? SERGIO DAVILA, WHO TOOK THE TOWN BY STORM, BRINGING NEW YORK CITY VIBES TO THE SOUTH AMERICAN MECCA

It was a colorful week at PeruModa, the government sponsored fashion initiative that comes once a year in order to promote the best in Peruvian exports—everything from textiles to jewelry to ready-to-wear apparel. International editors and buyers descend on the capital for a crash course in local commerce, discovering many of the wonders of Peruvian manufacturing in the process. The local economy is booming—evidenced by the staggering amount of vehicles on the road, driven by recent city transplants hoping to capitalize on new economic opportunities. It's a lot to take in, but luckily for me, designer Sergio Davila was there to show me around.

Bringing in The Misshapes to DJ his runway, Davila's show, consisting of both menswear and womenswear, was the unequivocal triumph of the week. You may be familiar with Mr. Davila from his shows at Lincoln Center during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, or from his now-shuttered shop in midtown/chelsea, which will reopen later this year at a new location in SoHo. In his home country of Peru, he is something of a local god, bringing the urban New York City street back home with him in collections that feature inventive, constructed dresses for women, and cool sweaters and casual pants for men. A standout motif this season featured the woven print of a small dog wearing a gas mask.

After Davila's runway show at PeruModa, the designer brought the Misshapes and myself back to the opulent setting of the Country Club Lima Hotel for an afterparty that was heavy on the vodka, packed with photographers (all of whom, it turns out, have assisted fellow Peruvian Mario Testino), and a fun-filled end to a fluorescent week down South.
