The queen of pop unveils the name of her new album and latest alter ego. Meet Madame X.
Author: Paul Madley
Madonna, one of fashion’s biggest chameleons, is back with a brand new album, Madame X. The release date and track listing are yet to be confirmed, but her Majesty has been teasing fans with an album trailer blasted all over social media.
The video sees Madonna dressed and posed as different identities, different women. “Madame X is traveling around the world, changing identities, fighting for freedom. Bringing light to dark places. Madame X is a dancer, a professor, a head of state, a housekeeper,” she says. “I am Madame X.”
This will be Madonna’s 14th studio album. The title Madame X first gained notoriety in the late 1800’s when a portrait of Virginie Amélie Avegno Gautreau (an American Socialite living in Paris) was considered scandalous ‘smut’ because of the low-cut neckline featured in the painting. It later became a classic work of art after wowing the New York art scene. Who knows how much the original Madame X will influence this new album, but one thing’s for sure: Madonna is the queen of reinvention and she’s at her best when making dance-infused pop hits.
