Karl Lagerfeld once said, according to WWD, “If you ask me what I’d most like to have invented in fashion, I’d say the white shirt. For me, the white shirt is the basis of everything. Everything else comes after.” His respect for the white shirt was quite famous as it was essential to his own personal outfits. When he passed away earlier this year, the fashion community mourned and many paid tribute. Again, his friends have organized to honor him, but this time, through the White Shirt Project.

The seven contributors to the project include Takashi Murakami, Kate Moss, Cara Delevingne, Diane Kruger, and Tommy Hilfiger. Current CEO of Maison Karl Lagerfeld, Pier Paolo Righi told WWD, “The participants in this tribute are all people who Karl knew, who he felt connected to, or who inspired him.”

Each individual will design their own white shirt. 77 replicas of each design will and sold for 777 euros, nodding to Lagerfeld’s affinity for the number seven. All proceeds will go to Sauver la Vie, a charity funding Paris Descartes University’s medical research. Paris Fashion Week will exhibit all seven of the final designs from the White Shirt Project.
