King Princess Releases New Single Prophet

King Princess releases “Prophet”, the second single off of her forthcoming album, which also features Cheap Queen.

Just over a year ago with the release of Make My Bed, seemingly ordinary Brooklynite Mikaela Straus transformed into the queer icon in-the-making that is King Princess. Held together by a string of angsty, queer-themed love ballads, Make My Bed delivered a refreshing take on “Bedroom Pop” with an unexpected rocker’s edge. And after completely shattering popular music’s glass ceiling with tracks like Talia and Pussy Is God, King Princess is back and better than ever. But don’t just take our word for it, the 20 year-old phenomenon gushed over her newest single “Prophet”. It’s one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written,” said the singer on Twitter

The slow-burning rock anthem is centered around the excitement that coincides with new love. In the song, KP sings, “I can only think about you, And what it’s like to walk around you, And why they like to talk about you”. “Prophet” follows suit of most King Princess bops where there is an underlying message covered up by raspy vocals and hard-hitting bass. For this track, the singer played on the similarly sounding words prophet and profit, also describing her equally measured infatuation and repulse for her love interest. While King Princess is well aware that her lover may only care “’bout the money and control” she realizes that she too stands to gain from the relationship.

This may only be the second single off of KP’s forthcoming debut album, but the singer is going full-speed ahead. With the release of the single Prophet, not only did she share the official title of her debut album “Cheap Queen”, but she also announced a North American tour for the album. With all of this news we can only assume an album release is in the on horizon.
