Backstage at Iris Van Herpen Spring 2020 Haute Couture
Get under the sea with Iris Van Herpen’s latest Spring 2020 Haute Couture Collection
On Day 2 of Paris’ Spring 2020 Haute Couture shows, Iris Van Herpen created a captivating and alluring collection, bringing a new age of couture through the expression of hydra-organism art. Evoking a deep-sea aura to the collection, Van Herpen has conjured up a vision of barnacle couture for her latest Spring 2020 Haute Couture show. Coincidentally titled “Sensory Seas”, the aquatic-themed 21-piece line up featured all the classic bone structure elements of previous Van Herpen collections, but this time with an abstract touch of watercolor pattern designs. The inspiration came from the illustrations of Spanish neuroscientist and artist Santiago Ramón y Cajal. Known as the father of modern neuroscience, he dedicated his studies towards anatomy and based many of his drawings on brain imagery. Painted organza creations reflected this in the form of marine-esque organisms blooming in multicolored arrays. With this latest couture show, Van Herpen demonstrates the wonder of the unknown and the art behind the sea.
