Simon Lee Gallery to Present Online Via Art Basel Hong Kong 2020
Coronavirus has caused Art Basel to Launch Online Viewing Rooms.
After the announcement last month that the art fair scheduled for March 17 through March 21 was canceled due to the Coronavirus outbreaks, Art Basel then announced that for the first time ever, they would offer online viewing rooms to replace the event in Hong Kong. Over 230 dealers will participate in the virtual Art Basel, offering roughly 2,000 pieces totaling in an estimated value of $270 million.
Simon Lee Gallery has announced that they will be participating in the virtual galleries from March 20 through March 25, with VIP viewing dates on March 18 and 19. The gallery will feature the works of artists such as Mel Bochner, Angela Bulloch, Bernard Frize, Donna Huanca, Claudio Parmiggiani, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Garth Weiser, Clare Woods, Yun Hyong-Keun, and Toby Ziegler.
The gallery took to Instagram to share their participation in the fair. Following the chaos of the COVID-19 pandemic, the solution of presenting online seems optimistic and hopeful. As cities shut down and people are working from home for weeks to come, hosting the first-ever virtual Art Basel seems to represent the ways we are learning to cope during this trying time.
