Marine Serre Presents New Spring/Summer 22 Collection With Ostal24
The eerie film illustrates a world based around isolation and solitude.
There is nothing designer Marine Serre loves more than telling a story. As the world tries to adapt to new ways of living, such as what we wear and consume, and learn to co-exist, Serre wants to provide a different perspective. She wants us to see what life would look like if we changed our habits, and did not have to endure the pain of isolation. With the help of Sacha Barbin and Ryan Doubiago, Serre is able to give viewers a glimpse into a world filled with more optimism and endless possibilities through Ostal24.
In the film, Serre envisions a life filled with less divide and more kindness. A life that has less restrictions and more freedom, a life that provides more time with friends and family, or as she puts it, “I want people to feel the beauty and the simplicity of being together…And at the same time, recognise that everyday we make choices that have an impact, so how can we be more responsible in the decisions we make?’’
The term “Ostal’’ means home in Occitan—a historic language native to Serrie’s roots. The significance of the term goes hand in hand with the message of the film, which is finding home in every aspect of life, no matter where it takes us. This is also the essence of the collection itself.
To relay her message more, Spring/Summer 2022 is nothing short of sustainability. The collection, titled Fichu pour Fichu, is composed of 45% recycled and 45% regenerated materials. It is her most sustainable collection yet, with fabrics, such as multicolored terry torchon and linen tea towels, have been used in each piece, including boxy jackets and skirts. There are also dresses made from upcycled silk scarves and t-shirts, as well as jewelry that was crafted from cutlery, denim, glass, stones and more. Another fabric, pointelle knitwear, is a new sustainable material Serre has incorporated within the collection. Each piece is femmine and has a slight vintage appearance, with components of lace, floral prints and bright colors that replicate the feeling of being at home. But most importantly, Serre’s SS22 collection proves that sustainability has a rightful place in fashion.
