KENZO’S F/W 2022 Collection Melds Tradition And Innovation
New KENZO Artistic Director Nigo looks to the future with a modern approach to design and collaboration
Japanese designer Nigo made his debut as Artistic Director of KENZO with an eye-catching collection and a forward-thinking perspective on fashion. Curated as a “tunnel toward the future,” the show, set in the Galerie Vivienne, featured neoclassic architecture in contrast to the eclectic and mismatched designs, and a soundtrack that teased an exclusive preview of Nigo’s upcoming album featuring A$AP Rocky, Kid Cudi, Pharrell Williams, Tyler, the Creator and more. A contemporary display of KENZO’s heritage, Nigo successfully bridges Japanese and Western wardrobe conventions with an authentic feel. His aesthetic is fueled by his childhood in 1980’s Japan, with a play on 1950s’ Americana and influenced by post-WWII cultural links. In learning from the past, Nigo looks to the future, paying homage to KENZO’s founding ideals with his own unconventional approach to garment design and styling. An impressive display of creative range, the collection features a variety of patterns, styling and color. With genderless silhouettes and a mix of tailoring and workwear, the collection features a variety of jackets, denim, knitwear, and accessories that speak to Nigo’s creative voice and amplify the brands existing palette.
