Louis Vuitton Embraces Unbridled Freedom
The newest collection for the French fashion house honors youth culture with traditional LV flair
With a sophisticated range of daywear and eveningwear that just slightly push the boundary into edgy avant-garde, Louis Vuitton has again solidified itself as a leading innovator in the fashion industry. Under the creative direction of Nicolas Ghesquière, the Fall-Winter 2022 runway show was held at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, an elegant museum perched alongside the Seine.
At its core, the FW22 collection derives from the ambiguous; an unconventional adolescence driven by desire for complete autonomy. An exploration into fleeting youth, the garments emit a certain nostalgic feel, playing with idealism and perfectionism as part of a decisive construct.
Emblematic Louis Vuitton is seen throughout the collection, with its sophisticated neutral colors, monogram pattern and recognizable logo. Pieces play with silhouette, melding traditionally masculine fits with an effeminate feel. Sweaters are oversized, jacket shoulders are padded atop loose-fitting arms, and waistlines are dropped.
Graphic prints are sporadically placed throughout the collection, while muted patterns and delicate embellishments add a layer of sensuality. Flowing fabrics, asymmetric lines, and pearl details point to a more feminine side, while keeping the garments versatile enough to match a variety of aesthetic choices.
Shoes and purses complete the collection, with sneakers, buckled boots, and gold-embellished LV shoulder bags complementing the garments. A step into ephemeral youth, the ready-to-wear collection is an explorative display of innocence and romanticism.
