Givenchy Releases Fall 2022 Pre-Collection

A collection that mixes the old with the new, and introduces new handbag styles for both men’s and womenswear.

All about revisiting Givenchy’s tailoring heritage and archetypes, Givenchy creative director, Matthew M. Williams, juxtaposes the old with the new for the house’s Fall 2022 Pre-Collection. Consisting of both mens– and womenswear, the collection is filled with statement pieces that exude French elegance, but have a focus on “nuanced volumes, signature hardware, craft and innovative techniques.” Most of all, the collection steps outside Givenchy’s couture traditions to uncover new style avenues for the brand to explore.

A common theme for both the men’s and women’s ready-to-wear are that they contain “specially developed hardware signatures” to create what the brand calls a “visual bridge” with the collection’s accessories. The similarities continue with the collection’s wide variety of everyday essentials that mix business wear with casual wear. Keeping with the house’s DNA, Fall 2022 fuses different silhouettes, fabrics and styles together, such as a pair of slim-cut flared trousers that are meant to provide an elongated silhouette.

Another unique piece is a lace backless dress with a star strap system that “balances structure and lightness.” Sleek, cropped leather trenches and bleached, overdyed denim jackets also make an appearance, and contain special treatments like lasered monograms and bleached jacquard. But for men, we see more structured suiting in some pieces, such as a nylon coat, compared to the womenswear. However, both mens and womenswear have equal amounts of utilitarian and timeless details to them in order to stay consistent with the collection’s theme.

Like Givenchy’s previous collections, accessories are a major component of Fall 2022, especially with new handbag launches. The Kenny is a fresh take on the bourse style, with calf leather and embossed monograms for a more everyday look. The Moon Cut Out is also coated with monogram, but focuses more on texture. Expanding on the Antigona family of handbags, Givenchy introduces a more energetic vibe to them with Antigona Sport. The sporty and urban vibe continues with the G-Zip bum bag and camera bag, as well as the Givenchy baseball caps. To bring the entire collection together, women’s shoes bring back the iconic 4G cube chain on leather mules and sandals. Contrastingly, the men’s shoewear focuses on one star shoe: the TK-360–a fully knitted sneaker that allows the wearer to walk directly on the knit.
