After making their runway debut at New York Fashion Week last fall, the Altuzarra X Keds collaboration has finally been released. Fusing the detail-oriented and effortlessly feminine design-language of Altuzarra and the easy-going wearability of Keds, the range of shoes has got to be a frontrunner in the search for the perfect summer sneaker.

When coming up with the collaboration, Creative Director of Altuzarra, Joseph Altuzarra, chose to take two classic Keds silhouettes and imbue his own design sensibilities into them. The Keds Champion and Renaissance sneakers were selected and further deconstructed, appealing to themes of the Altuzarra SS23 collection. There is a stark contrast between leather and suede versus heavily distressed canvas which reveals a touch of satin; reminiscent of the deconstructed garments that came down the runway last fall.

The Renaissance silhouette is the more athletic in style of the two, featuring a rubber sole and embossed logo, offered in black and khaki, while the Champion is more of a classic Keds look, designed in monotone in white and khaki, featuring a more heavy distressing. The design of both styles are classic rather than hype-y, meant to be worn for years to come with the wearer adding their own natural distressing atop of the worn-in look that they have been created with.

“For this collaboration, I drew inspiration from Keds that had been worn over time, and thought it was interesting to treat wear-and-tear as a precious marker of time, not to be discarded but celebrated,” shared Altuzarra. “The sneakers are distressed and aged to reproduce the look of a worn shoe, revealing a luxurious satin underlayer beneath. I wanted to celebrate the beauty of wear and imperfections.”
