Broadway’s most enigmatic figure is making his grand return to New York, and he’s bringing a new creative force with him. Renowned stylist, designer, and creative visionary Nicola Formichetti has been named Director of Masks (at the behest of the Phantom himself) for the upcoming immersive experience, Masquerade, inspired by The Phantom of the Opera.

Formichetti’s latest role sees him crafting an array of evocative facial adornments for the entire cast, each piece adding depth and dimension to the enduring legend of the Phantom. Set to be both a visual spectacle and a storytelling device, the designer’s masks extend beyond the cast, as well.

As Masquerade prepares to blur the lines between audience and performer, two exclusive Formichetti-designed masks will be made available to guests, who are encouraged to don their most decadent attire. Joining Formichetti on this fantastical journey is jewelry designer and creative director Chris Habana, known for his bold, sculptural pieces poised between fantasy and fetish.

The immersive production invites audiences to step deeper than ever before into the world of The Phantom of the Opera, from the opulent rooftop above the Opera Populaire to the cavernous lair beneath it. With over 30,000 crystals shimmering from a reimagined chandelier—courtesy of Preciosa, the Official Crystal Partner of Masquerade—and MAC Cosmetics serving glamor as the Official Makeup Partner, V practically have our gowns on already.

Masquerade draws its inspiration from the legendary musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, with lyrics by Charles Hart and Richard Stilgoe. But in this reawakening, audiences are both spectator and guest at the Phantom’s most lavish party to date.
