Grand Collection has been outfitting skaters in NYC for almost a decade. Now, the brand is making the jump into footwear with a New Balance Numeric collab, reimagining a silhouette from the former’s archive. In a multi-month rollout (that included a Paris Fashion Week showroom, off-calendar NYC runway show and a skate film), Grand has been teasing its ultra-minimal but elevated take on the 770 and complementary sportswear capsule.

The kicks were first officially unveiled in August for Grand’s Fall/Winter ’25 runway show, showcased alongside a myriad of New Balance collab garments and the brand’s own seasonal selections. “We’re both obsessed with shape, form, fabric, timelessness, but we’re also obsessed with true functionality,” says Grand founder Ben Oleynik of the collaboration with New Balance’s skate division Numeric. “This shoe is the embodiment of all of these things. We wanted to showcase that in the most literal and elevated way possible: showing this sneaker can perfectly live on the runway and actually be skated in.”

The connection between the brand’s can be traced back to their mutual support of skaters like Brian Reid and Spencer Hamilton, and has been the result of an ongoing discussion. “When simple conversations last for hours and the product vision was so easily aligned the 770 pack became the natural conclusion,” says New Balance Numeric General Manager Sebastian Palmer.

The shoes were partially inspired by skaters’ tendency to integrate non-skating shoes into their practice. “We have been waiting to bring this model back for a few years,” Palmer tells VMAN. “Ben saw the vision of adopting it for skate and executed it in a clean, premium understated way. It was exciting to find a partner who shared the experience of skaters stealing shoes that weren’t originally intended for them and making them their own.”

The 770 sneaker is releasing in pure all black leather and all white leather versions, both with debossed NB and Grand logos. To make them more skate-friendly, the new versions of the archival silhouette are reinforced throughout for increased stability and durability. The apparel capsule is comprised of a plush velour tracksuit, a unique polar fleece wind shirt with matching bottoms and a 100% heavyweight cotton sweatsuit.

The release of the collab is accompanied by a black and white skate film featuring Reid and Hamilton—shot exclusively in New York. New Balance Numeric x Grand Collection is available at grandcollectionco.com, newbalance.com and select retailers globally, starting October 15th, 11am EST.
