Pierpaolo Piccioli Gives Balenciaga Room to Move

The Creative Director drew inspiration from art and history to create Les Coraux De La Liberté
Balenciaga’s Summer 2027 Collection sees couture influence ready-to-wear, with pieces that indulge in imagination and artistry. Designed by Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli, the collection draws on artisanal techniques found in the 55th Balenciaga Couture Collection to inform Summer 2027, raising the bar through greater quality and intention in each garment.
By looking to the history and craft of couture, the collection takes shape. Volume is introduced to create dramatic forms that remain distinctly attuned to Balenciaga’s aesthetic language.

Bias cutting furthers this intentionality by considering a garment’s relationship to the body. The garment and body change in accordance with one another, an idea central to Cristóbal Balenciaga’s philosophy. Piccioli demonstrates this in a new way by reflecting on the functionality of the collection. Structure is created to be worn, affecting how each piece feels on the body, allowing the collection to lend itself to comfort while maintaining the signature Balenciaga look. What Piccioli offers is freedom. Freedom of expression is matched by freedom of movement. There is an emphasis on lightness, functionality, and wearability.
Art lies at the center of the runway presentation. Les Coraux de la Liberté by French artist Aude Franjou serves as a centerpiece of the runway and the namesake of the collection. The work becomes a metaphor, imagining the fashion house as a living thing that needs the freedom to move, grow, and change. The freedom to live.
