Ann Demeulemeester Unveils Collaborative Collection With Ethel Cain

Unveiled during the SS27 show “Lonesome Heaven,” the capsule touches on creative commonalities between the artist and the brand

Music and Ann Demeulemeester have always worked well together. Patti Smith is often cited as a muse for the brand, while PJ Harvey, clad in Ann Demeulemeester, has performed at numerous runway shows. Not to mention the countless name-drops in lyrics by some of the most relevant rappers and singers in the industry, the brand has a profound connection to the music world.

Building on this relationship, Ann Demeulemeester has unveiled a creative partnership with artist Ethel Cain, co-helmed by the singer and creative director Stefano Gallici. The capsule was first unveiled at the brand’s Spring/Summer 2027 show in Paris, where Cain walked the runway wearing pieces from the collection.

Two garments from the collection are currently available for purchase. The two graphic T-shirts reference Cain’s album Perverts, which closes with the line “It’s happening to everyone.” This phrase is prominently displayed on the shirts, alongside a drawing created by Cain. “The design is a drawing I made of the ring in my sketchbook around the time I was creating ‘Perverts.’ While specific to my own personal philosophy that Perverts was created around, it’s also meant to generally represent the cycle of life, and Ouroboros, and all other things never-ending.”

With all the black frills and leather lace characteristic of an Ann Demeulemeester ensemble, the collection draws on several visual references contributed by Cain, including her own artwork. Gallici then translated these references into garments, bringing the capsule to life.
