For Claire Sullivan, getting dressed has always been about more than simply choosing what to wear. Through her New York-based couture atelier, Miss Claire Sullivan, the designer has built a world rooted in fantasy, craftsmanship, individuality, and the freedom to play dress up.
Inspired by the magic of her first princess dress at just five years old, Sullivan approaches fashion as an opportunity to shed expectations and embrace the unexpected. That spirit was on full display at this year’s CFDA Awards, where the designer arrived in one of her own creations, complete with the billowing tulle silhouettes that have become a signature of her work. Her designs also made appearances throughout the evening, with Julia Fox stepping out in an archival Miss Claire Sullivan look, while Naomi Osaka and Dara wore custom creations by the atelier.
Since its beginnings in 2021, the label has grown through a series of creative collaborations and one-of-a-kind garments made for both the individual and the moment. Whether dressing herself or some of today’s most recognizable cultural figures, Sullivan continues to approach clothing as an expression of personal storytelling and self-discovery.
