On Thursday morning, indie pop star Halsey announced on Twitter that she has quit smoking after a ten-year nicotine addiction. Quitting smoking is never an easy or linear task, but the singer has stayed off for the past few weeks, receiving many words of encouragement from her fans after the announcement. 

“I successfully quit nicotine a few weeks ago after smoking for TEN years,” Halsey stated in the tweet. “I gained a lot of weight and probably lost some friends forever [because] I was being a NUT (lol) but I’m so happy I did it and I feel v goooood. just wanted to share.”

Being 24 years old means Halsey first begun the habit around 14, at an age where it’s very easy to develop practices that become harder and harder to kick as time goes on. She had previously tried to quit earlier this past year in November, again sharing her progress on Twitter. She had quit cold turkey, without the aid of any e-cigarettes or nicotine products. In an exchange with a fan, she also revealed that she had quit smoking weed, instead only consuming CBD and THC products for anxiety and insomnia. 

“I’m cleaning a lot and drinking a lot of water so like damn shoulda done this a lot sooner,” Halsey shared back in November of her new lifestyle.
