10 Ways to Celebrate Galentine’s Day
V’s guide to spending Valentine’s Day with friends.
Even though the official Galentine’s Day is Feb. 13th, there’s nothing stopping you from spending Feb. 14th with your friends too. Whether you’re single and the flower arrangements lining the streets of the city disgusts you or you’re just not feeling that person that’s been asking you out for ages now, here’s how to have a wondrous Valentine’s Day with your closest companions.
Hit the town
Avoid the chaos of calling ten different restaurants for a reservation only for them all to tell you they’re full and go straight to you and your squad’s favorite club or bar.
Stay in
Drink wine and laugh ’til it hurts.
Buy flowers and chocolate
But for yourself! Just ‘cause you’re not going on a date doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy over dyed flowers and sugary chocolate.
People watch the streams of couples walking through the city
Perusing all the different couples with your friends can either be funny or heartbreaking, it’s up to you to decide.
Watch a History Channel show about Valentine’s Day
This holiday is historically actually a little creepy; “The holiday has origins in the Roman festival of Lupercalia, held in mid-February. The festival, which celebrated the coming of spring, included fertility rites and the pairing off of women with men by lottery,” reads Encyclopedia Britannica. Then feel blessed that this holiday has evolved into a day mainly spent eating chocolate.
Despite it being cliché, go to the movies
If V Day makes you feel all warm inside, go see The Photograph. If you can’t wait for the sun to rise tomorrow and for this to all be over, go see Birds of Prey.
Tell your most horrific Valentine’s Day stories
Or your best, but we all know that Valentine’s Day in middle school was horrendous and awkward, which could potentially count as a horror story.
Do something sweet for someone
Split the cost of flowers between you and your friends and give them to someone who looks like they could use a little love.
Laugh or cry at Valentine’s Day memes
There’s undoubtedly a meme for everyone this Valentine’s Day, and what’s better than all your friends trying to show the group a meme at the same time while everyone’s yelling and fighting so their’s can be seen.
Drink more
Open up that second, or third or fourth or fifth, bottle of Prosecco with no guilt, it’s Valentine’s Day!
