2021 SAG Awards Are Coming!

While award season might be at home or indoors, here’s what to look forward to at this Sunday’s SAG awards

The Screen Actors Guild Awards are the awards show specifically meant for the actors who grace the screens, actors vote for their peers, whether they were in theaters or on TV this year. Regardless of the lack of theater releases, people were still experiencing the plentiful amount of films and shows released in the last year from The Crown to Watchmen or Nomadland to Hillbilly Elegy.

While Frances McDormand is nominated for a fifth SAG award and Viola is nominated for her sixth, Vanessa Kirby or Carey Mulligan might get their first win this year. It could go any way this year since none of the nominations won the Golden Globe for best actress.

Gary Oldman and the late Chadwick Boseman are the only nominees who have won SAG awards in the past, surprisingly Anthony Hopkins has never won along with fellow nominees Riz Ahmed and Steven Yeun. While Yeun is a major contender, Boseman is expected to posthumously win for his performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

The Queen’s Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy might have won a Golden Globe for her performance on the show and she might win again, but fairly newcomer Michaela Cole might snatch this award for her performance in I May Destroy You.

While Mark Ruffalo is the only nominee to have won SAG awards in the past, fan-favorite The Queen’s Gambit actor Bill Camp is a possible contender. Ethan Hawke and Hugh Grant might have a chance as well up against Hamilton actor Daveed Diggs.

While this is an award show about actors and actors only, we will be looking forward to the fashion, if it will be shown at all. With actresses such as Kerri Washington and Nicole Kidman and actors Dan Levy and Daveed Diggs, some stellar looks might grace our TV or laptop screens this Sunday.

The three-hour event will only be one hour this year most likely due to the pandemic with most segments pretaped. The 2021 SAG Awards will air on TNT and TBS on Sunday, April 4 at 9 p.m. ET and will reair the same night at 11 p.m. The broadcast will also be available to stream on YouTube TV, Hulu, Sling TV, AT&T TV, and Live TV.
