24KGOLDN has found success through his genre-bending songs, which combine hip-hop, pop, and rock. His unique sound led to a massive hit with “Mood” in 2020. That heavily streamed song is 3x Platinum-certified, a sure sign of a monumental breakthrough for the California rapper. It’s the final track out of 13 on his debut album El Dorado, a confident and innovative project that 24KGOLDN created with collaborators KbeaZy, Omer Fedi, and Blake Slatkin over the last year. Pandemic recording is an interesting and challenging process, but we’ve still seen great albums come from this time, and El Dorado sits among them. 24KGOLDN is in tune with the challenges of younger generations and speaks to the trials and anxieties that they face.

V spoke with 24KGOLDN for his cover story back in March, when he told us about his plans for El Dorado and his creative process of writing and recording these songs. He described the experience of recording during COVID as “a blessing and a curse,” noting that his performances were canceled but he appreciated the chance to direct his attention toward the album.
