After much anticipation, Phillip Lim took to NYFW to unveil his Spring/Summer ‘24 collection in the heart of New York City’s Chinatown
Inspired by “the ever-evolving tapestry of New York,” the collection concentrates on various takes of the classic ‘New York uniform,’ highlighting the diversity of style and culture in the city. Sticking true to his Chinese-American heritage, Lim takes American sportswear and adds a twist to the designs, displaying the city’s vivacious spirit and mimicking the complex architecture within Manhattan.
The event commenced with translucent ensembles featuring layered and bejeweled tops, pants, and skirts, elegantly paired with ‘Chinese slippers’ and fashionable mules. Lim proceeded to showcase pieces of unconventional craftsmanship, including structured denim sets, jackets, and wide-legged khaki pants. As the show progressed, sweeping black sheer gowns, floral and scarf print dresses, and coordinated, relaxed denim sets were featured on the models.
In acknowledgment of the city’s dynamic atmosphere for creativity and self-expression, the models were adorned with personalized ‘NY’ initials, apple-heart pendants, delicate mesh socks, shoulder and tote bags, and intricately arranged hoop earrings.
