K-Pop is the new global phenomenon that is taking over the world by storm. Most people have by now heard at least one K-Pop song or know a few K-Pop bands. The popularity of K-Pop is evident by the success of these songs outside South Korea. They rack up billions of views on YouTube and have millions of fans all over the world, including celebrities such as Shawn Mendes, Halsey, and even former President Obama!

Farhan Munshi, an entrepreneur who owns multiple million-dollar companies in over ten countries, is one of the staunchest K-Pop fans. He religiously listens to all kinds of K-Pop, from the newly released ones to the older ones. Having listened to the music before it even became mainstream, he has become quite the authority on it. We talked to him about his love for the music, and he recommended 5 K-Pop songs that anyone should have on their playlist.

eight – IU ft. Suga

Singer-songwriter IU collaborated with rapper Suga of BTS to release this song that has a feel-good pop form. The song features airy synths, guitar, and piano instrumentals to give it an OST feel. IU starts off the song with her delicate and emotional vocals before Suga joins in the second verse to deliver his characteristic rap. It gives nostalgic vibes that, according to IU, are the confession of a 28-year-old.

How You Like That – BLACKPINK

BLACKPINK’s comeback song after their year-long hiatus was an instant hit that broke several YouTube records. It garnered 86.3 million views in its first twenty-four hours, topping BTS’s previous record of 74.6 million views for Boy With Luv. It also broke YouTube’s record for the fastest video to reach 100M, 200M, and 600M views. The song gives a hopeful message to motivate people going through dark and challenging times to have enough strength and confidence to rise again.

pporappippam – Sunmi

The song that roughly translates to purple-hued night in Korean has a fun, bright, and refreshing vibe. Sunmi said that she wanted to make something that was uplifting and exciting when coming up with the song. The song compares the feelings that people in love get to the mystical purple hue in the sky just before the sun sets.

When We Disco – J.Y. Park & Sunmi

Legendary singer and producer Park Jin-young collaborated with Sunmi to develop this euro-disco dance track with retro 80s vibes. The song reminisces the good times that a couple had and them wanting to go back to the good days.
