A Different Kind of Batman

Batman gets a new look in the latest teaser for ‘The Batman.’

The latest teaser to Matt Reeves’ The Batman arrived at the DC FanDome event on Saturday and showed glimpses of a different kind of Batman than fans are used to. Yes, Robert Pattinson was fighting crime, driving the batmobile and working alongside Catwoman — but he was also beating the daylights out of a seemingly young and unmatched hoodlum.

Batman’s shift in character is only shown briefly in Reeves’ dark Nirvana themed teaser. A larger spotlight is given to the Riddler, played by Paul Dano, who wreaks havoc on Gotham. The teaser shows a whole host of characters, including Commissioner Gordon played by Jeffery Wright and Catwoman played by Zoë Kravitz, riding the Riddler’s chaotic wake.

Reeves’ teaser is not the only glimpse fans have received of the upcoming film. At the start of 2020, Reeves posted a photo of a completely redesigned batmobile, Pattinson’s Batsuit and also some media of Michael Giacchino’s score for the film. There have also been some leaks from The Batman’s set as a photo of the updated Batcycle was made public earlier this year.

The Batman is packed with an array of stars including Colin Farrell who plays Penguin. Other celebrities such as Andy Serkis, Jayme Lawson, John Turturro and Peter Sarsgaard also will make appearances.

Warner Bros. and DC halted Reeves’ production of The Batman earlier this year as the coronavirus pandemic threatened set safety. The film is set to start filming again in September and release in October 2021. At the DC event this weekend, Reeves said 25% of the film is shot.

The Wonder Woman sequel also made headlines at the DC FanDome event as well as updates to Zack Snyder’s Justice League extended cut.
