A New Scream Movie is Reportedly in the Works

What’s your favorite scary movie? The correct answer is Scream 5.

Ghostface is back, baby! It’s been reported that the slasher franchise Scream will soon be getting its fifth installment courtesy of Spyglass Entertainment, which picked up the library of Dimension Films back in March.

Now before I (or Neve Campbell’s bank account) get too excited, there’s no word yet on if the new film will exist within the canon of the previous Scream films. The incomparable Wes Craven, who had directed all four Scream movies, passed away in 2015, and we’ve seen firsthand what happens to his legendary film franchises once they fall into other people’s hands (I am very much looking at you Nightmare on Elm Street, you messy, messy girl). In other unsettling news, Craven’s co-creator and scribe of all things Scream (we don’t discuss the TV adaptation in this household) is also yet to be tied to the project.

There’s also no word on whether the hardest people in the world to kill aka Sydney Prescott (Neve Campbell), Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) and Dewey Riley (David Arquette) will appear in the new film. I think I speak for everyone when I say that we absolutely need another iconic hair moment from Ms. Weathers. She gave us chunky red highlights. She gave us baby bangs. I need to know what’s next. Courteney, call me. Let’s chat.

Hopefully, we’ll get more information soon. Until then, queue up a scary movie, put some Jiffy Pop on the stove and don’t answer the phone.
