Açai is Your Favorite Beauty Ingredient You Don't Know About Yet

When talking about superfoods, there is one that will be brought up no matter the cuisine or context: açai. The sweet-yet-bitter berry is on the menu in every smoothie shop or café you walk into nowadays, largely due to the popularity of açai bowls, a healthy-but-incredibly-tasty breakfast option that has only in the past few years gained traction in the United States. And the health claims aren’t erroneous; science shows açai berries are loaded in antioxidants. However, the benefits don’t stop there, as they’re known to slow signs of aging, boost skin health, stimulate healthy digestion, and act as anti-inflammatories as well. They’re borderline miracle berries, both tasting good and good for you.

So it should come as no shock that you’ll be able to find açai, and in particular açai oil, as an ingredient in some amazing beauty products–from SPF lip balm to a serum. We’ve compiled some of our favorites below.

SuperGoop AçaiFusion Lip Balm with SPF 30+

You may know SuperGoop for their cult-favorite sunscreens, but they have an entire line of products to protect every part of you from the sun; one being their AçaiFusion Lip Balm. This lip balm takes some of the best effects of açai, like its potency in preventing aging, and packs them into a tube of super hydrating lip balm. The SPF 30+, of course, aids in keeping your lips from burning in the here and now. The balm itself tastes great, isn’t too light or too heavy, and won’t hang on your lips to make them blindingly shiny. It’s a perfect addition to your beach bag.

Grown Alchemist Intensive Body Repair Cream

Australian company Grown Alchemist is well known for making some of the best natural, organic products around, and this body cream is no different. Even if you're not a person who frequently moisturizes your body, it's difficult not to get addicted to slathering yourself head to toe in this cream, which uses rosa damascena, açai, and pomegranate to firm and smooth skin. Its fast absorption means that it keeps your skin feeling super hydrated without making it slick or sticky, and the moisture lasts all day. For the dedicated, it comes in a 500ml pump bottle as well as a 120ml tube, so you can be cost efficient at home, but still bring it with you on the go.

Éminence Organics Firm Skin Açai Masque

It can be hard to find a natural firming mask, but it's even harder to find one that smells great.  Fortunately, this mask has so many different kinds of berry–açai, blueberry, raspberry, and blackberry–it kind of feels like putting a smoothie on your face. Éminence Organics claim this mask is one of their best sellers, and it's easy to see why, as it not only plumps your skin but keeps it lifted. The regenerative, anti-aging properties of açai shine as the centerpiece to the product, making it a great mask for a night in, or to put on right before a night out.

Tata Harper Lip Treatments

Tata Harper may be known for their skincare, but their burgeoning cosmetics line is pretty amazing too. A cult-favorite product, their Lip Treatments, made with açai oil, are known for reducing the appearance of lip lines and naturally plumping lips without the unpleasant stinging feeling you get from most plumping products. There are three Lip Treatments out so far: Be True is a sheer balm that gives you all of the treatment benefits with no tint or shine, Be Adored gives you a just-bitten rose red tint, while the just-released Be Smitten, described as a magnolia pink, is the most opaque of the three. You can buy each of the three individually, or if you're sure of yourself and want a discount, they come together as a set as well.

Sol De Janeiro Açai Body Power Cream

A favorite amongst Sephora devotees, Brazilian brand Sol De Janeiro made body creams trendy again with their Brazilian Bum Bum Cream. However, for some real sparkle and shine as well as skin nourishment, their Açai Body Power Cream is the underdog you should turn to. The lavender-colored cream, which comes in a tub, is packed with peach-colored flecks of mica that provide a radiant glow which will turn all eyes to you without being too shiny–unlike a lot of glittery creams, you won't look like you fell in the craft aisle. And as the Body Power Cream is açai-riddled, it's regenerative, which makes it perfect for taking care of things like stretch marks. If there's a cream that you want to put on before going to the beach, this is it.

Farsáli Unicorn Essence

You've probably seen this serum from Farsáli all over Instagram, but there's a good reason for it. The açai berry, goji berry, elderberry, and blueberry inside of it provide protection from free radicals, and it's packed with Vitamin C and the standard antioxidants superfoods are known for. But what makes it truly amazing is its status as a multipurpose item. Although it's oil free (so thankfully won't aggravate already oily skin,) it can be used as either a serum before moisturizer or a flat-out primer, elongating the life of your foundation or eyeshadow while it restores and protects your skin. The bright pink liquid applies cleanly and evenly and also contains mica, so no matter how you use it, you'll achieve that ever-coveted dewy look.
