It seems as though the ’90s have taken over fashion week—just ask Acne Studios. The label’s designer, Jonny Johansson, is an expert for bringing unique concepts and a refreshing view to every collection. In fact, their Spring/Summer 2022 collection is nothing short of nostalgic, but with modern twists to the styles and trends you love. It contains everything from tulle dresses to leather trench coats, or for those who enjoy pieces that are a bit more eccentric, the brand showcased an array of bulky, platform heels that anyone would instantly fawn over. 

Compared to their women’s SS21 collection, SS22 is contrastingly different. Instead of iridescent fabrics, this season was filled with more surprises and less vibrant colors. Although it was still on par with Acne’s signature style—minimalistic, timeless and playful—each piece was filled with hints of grudge and feminine details. This includes the first few designs that hit the runway, which were sheer, tulle dresses that were paired with a matching bonnet. Some of these dresses had splashes of color and abstract print, while others stayed with the collection’s neutral color palette. 

Outside of tulle, there was also a plethora of leather—an essential to ’90s fashion. Leather pants were often paired with sheer tops, whereas a leather corset was layered over a long sleeve knit. These corsets were seen throughout the collection in various fabrics, with some synched around the waist or off-the-shoulder. Lace-up features were also included on the sides of skirts, bottoms and blouses, but for an edgier touch, the brand managed to squeeze in plaid, fridge and belt-buckle strap details to almost every piece. 

But the ’90s weren’t just embodied in the tulle gowns. Some of the statement pieces were the accessories themselves, including the silver heart locket that rested around one model’s neck. Another favorite was the shoes, which ranged from platform heels, strappy sandals and lace-up boots that went up to the knee. The brand also brought back the iconic chain belt, which stood out just as much as the large leather handbags themselves and glitter lipstick.
