Luxury Swedish brand Acne Studios has released their Fall/Winter 2021 collection, revealing it to be a delightful collaboration with Franco-Russian artist Apollinaria Broche. Ceramic animals hand-sculpted by Broche make their appearance throughout the enigmatic collection, as hand accessories or even pieces of jewelry.

Playing on the concept of the sculpted art, the collection itself is one of delight and dreamscape. Bold colors contrast with soft fabrics, giving the allusion of knits resembling teddy-bears and overdyed pyjamas being well-worn.

Draping dresses and elongated silhouettes contribute to the classic Acne Studios-esque style, yet Broche’s influence within the collection is notable immediately. Romantic floral prints and carefully fabricated pieces of jewelry adorn the models within the lookbook, adhering to the concept of her sculptures featured throughout.

Thigh-length boots paired with buttoned-up dresses and oversized wrap coats accentuate the duality of the collection, once more highlighting the softness of the pieces and artistic tendency of Broche’s vision.

Broche trained at Les Beaux-Arts de Paris, growing up in Moscow’s underground art world. Her pieces in Acne Studios’ Fall/Winter 2021 collection are small ceramic figurines of creatures — ranging from dogs, horses and cats — represent a specific mystified version of these beings. Each one has been coated in layers of paint, dripping down their bodies as their cartoonish eyes stare off to focus on something else.

“Artist collaborations can at times be radically different to their work, yet here [with Acne Studios] it was a perfect link,” said Broche. “The dreamscape and freedom of pastel colours and flower prints really piqued my interest. I wanted to create Bambi-like creatures living between zoomorphic and anthropomorphic emotions. Our emotions constantly change so these animals almost reflect our own totem whilst having this incredibly delicate and breakable reality,”

The collection is available to shop in stores and on acnestudios.com.
