The Ventura County sheriff’s department later identified the missing person as Rivera that same night, and a search and rescue operation would resume on Thursday morning.
Local authorities said that the search began after Rivera’s 4-year-old son was found floating on a rented boat alone on Lake Piru. Staff at Lake Piru were concerned after the boat was overdue, and another boater soon found it with her child on board but was unable to find her. The child was reported unharmed, and he informed investigators that they were both swimming but she never returned to the boat.
