Akoni’s SS24 Collection, “Collection VII”, presents a stunning range of eyewear that meets a celestial vision. Emphasizing the brand’s Swiss roots and engineering, the Lugano-based company offers new silhouettes and fresh color palettes this season that echo colors of lunar landscapes, composed of ice, sand and volcanic rock.

With Helvetian heritage reflected in the landscapes that serve as the backdrop for the brand’s Spring-Summer 2024 campaign, Artistic director Tommaso Garner worked closely with photographer Mattia Balsamini to center the campaign’s focus on three key designs from the Akoni VII collection: the Skyracer, Cosmo, and Tiros. Captured inside Switzerland’s Valle Verzasca, the campaign emphasizes the frames’ hand-crafted nature, completed by Japanese artisans.

“In the end, we know that it’s the elegant fractal geometry behind each of nature’s masterpieces that’s responsible for the fascinating beauty of every individual element of the Verzasca valley,” explains Akoni Creative Director Salma Rashid in a statement. “And that complex numerical provenance perfectly echoes the origin of each Akoni design— since the impeccable proportions of each of our Akoni frame ultimately depend upon the golden ratio, the age-old mathematical formula utilized by Akoni’s design team.”

The OPTIMA Collection includes the Skyracer, a frame inspired by space exploration, and the Tiros frame, an aviator style paying homage to mid-century satellite designs. In the DELTA Collection, the Juno-Two frame combines minimalistic circular and square symbols in a design that includes slim acetate rims. Titanium temples add to the sleek look, influenced by Tokyo’s modern aesthetic and intellectual spirit. Meanwhile, the Juno-One offers an innovative lens shape, featuring titanium frames and signature knurling.

The ETERE collection brings forth several standout designs, with the Cosmo and Cosmo RX frame offering a contemporary spin on the classic Wellington style. The Luna frame, inspired by the timeless cat-eye silhouette, modernizes this style with premium acetate and titanium. Gold highlights and custom rivets add a luxurious touch, making it a standout accessory.

The Hercules frame takes cues from luxury watch designs and Italian cinema, while the Columba frame reflects something of a laid-back West Coast vibe. The last collection of eyewear, the HORIZON Collection, includes the Solis frame, reinterpreting the navigator silhouette with a squared-off front and a bronze lens tone inspired by the Martian desert.
