Neon lights, mirrors, bumping cars and a life-size Ferris wheel, this seemingly abandoned funfair lends a fun atmosphere while bringing an eerie, dream-like sensation, reminiscent of our once empty cities in lockdown. This is Ami’s play with the digital format: the Spring-Summer 22 collection is presented in the Ami Funfair through a short feature film L’Échappée Belle, which was livestreamed on July 3 at 2:30 CET.

The title “L’Échappée Belle” – the greatest escape – is an allegorical reference to newfound freedom, to the outdoors and to better times ahead. In the film, a group of friends leaves the city for an escape in this poetic, almost apocalyptic environment. The friends take possession of the funfair, wandering around in a space only for them. It is a night to explore what the future will be, a night of liberty and discovery, in a metaphor of the passage between the old world and new world, between lockdown and freedom. After a whole year stuck at home, now, we can embrace the spontaneous jaunt of a close-knitted group of friends and celebrate the joy of being together.

The collection highlights Ami’s quintessential spirit by giving the iconic, modern silhouettes sharper shapes, more volumes, and, most importantly, an utmost sartorial sense. Womenswear shows newfound femininity, stronger and modern, with pieces that emphasize the waist, refined shoes, and all-over mesh embroideries. 

In this collection, superior quality felt hats are the result of an exclusive collaboration with Borsalino, a manufacturer of luxury hats for over 160 years. The floppy hats are declined in burgundy, taupe, green and black, matching the color palette of AMI’s Spring-Summer 22 collection and hand-made by the Italian house’s fine artisans. The partnership adds a touch of tradition and artistry to Ami’s energetic Spring-Summer 22 collection.

A new range of bags in neutral colors is also featured in accessories from the ready-to-wear collection. The Accordéon, AMI’s latest “it-bag” for Spring-Summer 22 marks a geometric shape with a utilitarian feeling. The Small Déjà-Vu is the reinterpretation on the Déjà-Vu, which was first seen in AMI’s Fall-Winter 21 runway.
