AMPERSOUNDS Release Their Debut EP and Collaboration With Rufus Wainwright
Techno and disco meet laid back, late night listening.
House DJ’s and producers Fred Falke and Zen Freeman, better known as AMPERSOUNDS, released their debut EP on Friday. Grammy nominated artist Rufus Wainwright joins the duo for two tracks, including the previously released “TECHNOPERA” and a brand new song, “Solitude of Heart.”
Smooth, easy to listen to and quite unlike anything else out there, “Solitude of Heart” draws on poetry and uses the depth and feeling of Wainwright’s voice to its advantage. Falke and Freeman artfully layer Wainwright’s vocals to create a dreamy sound – creating the perfect track for those calm midnight moments.
“I love sometimes working with existing lyrics and Solitude of Heart by Rabindranath Tagore seemed incredibly fitting. There is something very laid back about the track but also deep at the same time,” said Wainwright. “I think it is the perfect track to listen to in the middle of the night.”
The song’s music video takes listeners further into that realm, diving into a colorful, lush and mesmerizing dream. Watch it here:
Also included on the EP is “TECHNOPERA”, which was released in early June alongside a video created in collaboration with Daft Punk’s creative director and one half of Daft Arts Crew, Cédric Hervet. Hervet said he was inspired by the song to create a continuous line video that would be “simple and poetic.” This video continues to explore their idea of a dream state, with what the DJ’s describe as having an “apocalyptic edge.” Listen and watch here.
In addition, the EP features a new remix of the 1982 Raw Silk classic, “Do It To The Music.” The song was a staple in the New York City Disco scene and a favorite at the iconic Paradise Garage. The duo sought to modernize it and bring it into the future with their own signature sound, while grounding it in the soulfulness of the original version.
“We were really honored when WestEnd Records asked us to do a remix of Do it to the Music, because it has always been a go to floor filler in our DJ set,” said Falke and Freeman. “The vocal has such a modern feel even though it’s from the early 80’s and it has some great elements that we kept in the mix.”
