Fresh off a fiery performance of their runaway hit “Tiny Bikini” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Amyl and the Sniffers stormed NYC’s Pier 17 with a set so electric it blew the nonexistent roof off NYC’s Pier 17. Seriously—if you’re going to an AATS show, don’t forget your earbuds.

Frontwoman Amy Taylor is a bolt of electricity on stage, shocking the crowd like a fork in a power outlet: fast, powerful, and guaranteed to make you scream. Safe to say, no one is safe from the mosh pit that erupts when songs like “Security” kick in. People were flying above the crowd, all the way over the barricades—just under the band’s frequency.

Anyone claiming punk is dead clearly hasn’t listened to Amyl and the Sniffers in recent years. The Australian rock band has bulldozed their way into the mainstream with co-signs from Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins, Phoebe Lunny of Lambrini Girls, and another legendary frontwoman, Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

The most authentically punk aspect of their show wasn’t the DIY aesthetic or the crowd surfing. It was the moment they paused to publicly denounce the current political administration and speak out about women’s rights. In a world where most acts are either too afraid to speak up or too quiet to upset anyone, it’s refreshing to see artists, especially those without a vote in this country, understand and acknowledge the ripple effects of U.S. policy on global diplomacy.

Currently on tour in support of their third studio album Cartoon Darkness, released last October, the band shows no signs of slowing down—moshing their way up the charts and even deeper into our hearts.
