Amidst the flurry of events and high-profile guests that took over New York during Fashion Week, one very unexpected nostalgic fashion icon made an appearance—Tinky Winky. Yes, as in Tinky Winky from the hit children’s brand Teletubbies. Gearing up to celebrate their 25th anniversary in 2022, media conglomerate WildBrain’s Teletubbies are embarking on a variety of adventures following all of the beloved members—Laa-Laa, Po, Dipsy, and of course, Tinky Winky. Ever the stylish star, in purple with a red handbag, Tinky Winky celebrates fashion and joy with designers and tastemakers alike this NYFW.

An aspiring fashion designer, Tinky Winky was able to meet with some of the industry’s most creative from designer Christian Cowan to VFILES creator Julie Anne Quay. Welcomed with hugs wherever he goes, Tinky Winky met with Quay to review the VFILES' upcoming collection and to get fitted for their ‘Not The Met Gala’ event.

Interspersed with a posh lunch at La Mercerie and a fashionable showing at Spring Studios, the famed purple Teletubbie posed for street style photographers while donning a black tutu and sunglasses. After a quick stop at Barrow’s pop-up gelato truck, Tinky Winky stopped by beloved Gen Z designer Christian Cowan’s space to get a sneak peek at the new collection. A mentor and friend to Tinky Winky, Cowan set the Teletubbie up in the front row at the designer’s show on Sept. 10.

“I have enjoyed welcoming Tinky Winky to his first New York Fashion Week,” shares Cowan.  “We have a lot of exciting things planned for 2022 and cannot wait to share what’s next for Tinky Winky and the Christian Cowan brand.”

After a jam-packed day of fashion festivities, Tinky Winky spent the evening at Gitano for dinner with friends. In a celebration of fashion, art, and music, Tinky Winky brought a sense of nostalgia to the brand’s original fans—Gen Z—and—in classic Teletubbies fashion—a joyful and happy spirit to NYFW. With a keen interest in fashion and the ability to make anyone smile, Tinky Winky was the unexpected guest warming the hearts of fans of all ages.
