And Just Like That, The House Of Raf Simons Decamps Its Legacy
The namesake house of Raf Simons suspends its label, announcing SS23 collection as their last debut.
It’s official. Shocking the industry and pulling at the heartstrings of creative connoisseurs across the globe, the eponymous label of Raf Simons announced today via Instagram that its Spring Summer 2023 debut would be the house’s final season. Slated as one of London Fashion Week’s most sought-after shows, the renowned designer has decided to pull the cord on his 27-year journey and silence his coveted brand once and for all.
He shared in an Instagram post, “I lack the words to share how proud I am of all that we have achieved. I am grateful for the incredible support from my team, from my collaborators, from the press and buyers, from my friends and family, and from our devoted fans and loyal followers. Thank you all for believing in our vision and for believing in me.”
An industry archetype, Simons became regarded for his bold emergence into the fashion world around 1995, where he executed a distinct love for both rebellious youth subcultures and traditional menswear. This maverick design approach prompted a domino affect, radically initiating different fonts and genres of masculinity. At the core of every collection and “his universe” are his attitudes, moods, and statements communicating individuality and independence.
Simons was creative director at Jil Sander (2005-2012), Christian Dior (2012-2015), and Calvin Klein (2016-2018). On April 1st, 2020, he signed on as the co-creative director of Prada in partnership with Miuccia Prada. His “for confident outsiders” approach has been sanctioned as a source of inspiration for artists such as Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, Future, ASAP Rocky, Drake, and Kanye West.
