and Other Up and Coming NYC Artists Partner with Banana Republic

Banana Republic looks to NYC creatives to create the vision of the new BR Athletics collection.

Banana Republic is a brand that combines the excitement of expedition with the elegance of modern luxury. Known for its classic everyday wear, the brand takes a step in a new direction with BR Athletics. Launching earlier this month, BR Athletics aims to take “things that people already know, have nostalgia for, and framing them in new ways that feel fresh,” says Sandra Stangl, president and CEO of Banana Republic.

By combining their classic club attire with the streetwear trend of today, the heritage brand creates a completely new look for the athletics line. The gender-inclusive capsule collection takes retro-inspired activewear and reinvents it through a modern lens. To help capture the essence of the new collection, Banana Republic looks to NYC creatives to help create its vision.

Micaiah Carter, a Brooklyn-based photographer, takes lead on shooting the campaign images for BR Athletic. Carter has worked for some of fashion’s biggest magazines, such as V Magazine and Vogue and captured images of Hollywood’s elite. Now, Carter shifts his focus to BR Athletics new faces. The campaign stars 4 NYC-based artists as its models, and focuses on disrupting uniformity. Koi King, Caviēr, Leon Xu and Dido Rich are the creatives in question.  King is a jack of all trades. Although they’re currently focusing on music, King is a multidisciplinary artist that does it all. Like King, Caviēr is a multimedia artist who focuses on painting, photography, and music. Xu is a painter by nature, and Rich is an aspiring dancer and writer. All four of these creatives combine their talents for Carter’s view of BR Athletic.

The new campaign debuts on March 31. Until then, BR Athletics is available to shop in-store and on the Banana Republic Website.
