Andreas Kronthaler, creative director of Vivienne Westwood and lifetime partner of the designer, is here to remind us that not all jewelry has to be dainty and repetitive. In his Spring Summer 2022 collection, Kronthaler presents an elegant jewelry collection inspired by oversized and statement costume jewelry. 

In this collection, the Austrian designer played around with theatrical proportions as a reference to the natural world. By incorporating natural materials such as beads and pearls, Kronthaler takes a unique approach to statement jewelry by keeping intact the elegance and intricacy of the pieces and forgoing the tackiness that is typically associated with costume jewelry. 

“All the worlds a stage…costume jewelry helps you to be seen. It’s a celebration. You can make an occasion out of any situation in this jewelry,” said Kronthaler.

The collection includes seven pieces, including the Frances necklace and earrings made of resin beads and molded into the shape of soft, pastel-colored pearls. The Leandra tiara and earrings made of paper beads in orange and yellow hues resemble shell-like constellations and the warm tones of sunrise. The Pauletta earrings are in the shape of a heart, synonymous with the house, and crafted with crochet brass.
